Results of Large-dlqmeter Well Drilling in Philippine Geothermal Felds

چکیده

4 large hameter casing design was adopted for 34 vells drilled in the Philippines using 13-3/8” mduction casing in combination with 9-5/8’ slotted iner to improve well output and to reduce space equirement in collaring the wells. Well test results ndicate an increase in production by as much as !50% compared with wells using the usual string ambination of 9-5/8” and 7-518”. In the 600 MWe q t e Geothermal project alone, a reduction of about 9 wells in the total number of wells to be drilled vas achieved because of this newly adopted casing :onfiguration. This translates to a direct savings of JS$23-48 million, excluding those saved from a) leveloping new production and reinjection pads; b) idditional pipeline length; c) damage to environment rom new areas. However, various drilling problems vere encountered associated with collapsing ormation and casing failures. These have been nitigated by appropriate drilling procedures, cementing and selection of casing materials.

Comparison of Well Completions Used in Oil/gas Production and Geothermal Operations: a New Approach to Technology Transfer

Renewable energy is seen as the future source for meeting the world’s growing demand, with geothermal offering a constant and independent supply. Tapping geothermal energy is not always straightforward as deep drilling is required in order to access this high -temperature resource. Geothermal drilling is expensive and is financed by the operator (usually districts or state representatives) with...

Equivalent Circulation Density Analysis of Geothermal Well by Coupling Temperature

The accurate control of the wellbore pressure not only prevents lost circulation/blowout and fracturing formation by managing the density of the drilling fluid, but also improves productivity by mitigating reservoir damage. Calculating the geothermal pressure of a geothermal well by constant parameters would easily bring big errors, as the changes of physical, rheological and thermal properties...

Investigation of influential factors on well temperature for gas-liquid two-phase flow in under-balanced drilling operation

Analysis of the drilling fluid temperature due to heat transfer of drilling fluid with the formation in under-balanced drilling operation is the main objective of this study. Gas-liquid two-phase flow model considering thermal interaction with the formation is used to numerically simulate a well with real dimensions. In the present study, the continuity, momentum, and energy equations are devel...

An Improvement in Thermal and Rheological Properties of Water-based Drilling Fluids Using Multiwall Carbon Nanotube (MWCNT)

Designing drilling fluids for drilling in deep gas reservoirs and geothermal wells is a major challenge. Cooling drilling fluids and preparing stable mud with high thermal conductivity are of great concern. Drilling nanofluids, i.e. a low fraction of carbon nanotube (CNT) well dispersed in mud, may enhance the mixture thermal conductivity compared to the base fluids. Thus, they are potentially ...

McNitt A NEW MODEL FOR GEOTHERMAL EXPLORATION OF NON-VOLCANIC SYSTEMS IN EXTENDED TERRAINS

Existing geologic models of geothermal systems work reasonably well for the exploration of systems clearly associated with active, or recently active, volcanic centers. The poor results of exploration drilling undertaken during the last few years in the non-volcanic systems of the western United States, however, indicate that the model being used for exploring these systems requires significant...
